This IPS officer had publicly taken a pledge to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya in February this year. Now Surya Kumar Shukla, IPS officer and Uttar Pradesh’s Director General, Home Guard, has been found disgracing his profession once again.
This was after his letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking plum posting after retirement and assuring help in 2019 Lok Sabha polls was leaked. In his letter, written just few days before his retirement, Shukla had expressed his desire to ‘actively’ contribute towards the BJP’s 2019 Lok Sabha poll campaign.
Written on his official letetrhead, Shukla disgracefully wrote on 23 August has also expressed his desire to be considered for the head of the state’s Planning Commission and the position of the head of the state pollution control board.
“I have come to know that these posts under your government are presently vacant. If I am appointed on any of these posts, I will be in a situation to actively contribute towards you as this will facilitate travelling and and staying in guest houses,” PTI quoted Shukla’s letter.
He also expressed complete faith in the ideology of Yogi Adityanath’s organisation as well as its works. When contacted, the IPS officer said that he has not done anything wrong. “I have only a couple of days left in service..if someone talks about contributing in politics and society after that what is wrong in it,” he asked, according to PTI.
His letter has sent shockwaves among the former IPS officers, many of whom said that Shukla must immediately be suspended from his post for bringing disrepute to the IPS force. Retired IG SR Darapuri told PTI news agency that writing such a letter during the service period was a violation of the All India Services Conduct Rules and Shukla needed to be suspended and punished for the same.
In February, Shukla had to face the wrath of the IPS Offciers’ Association after a video of his pledge to build Ram Temple went viral on social media.
