UP government red-faced as bureaucrat decides to urinate in Triveni Sangam


Uttar Pradesh government was left red-faced on Tuesday video and photo of a bureaucrat urinating in Triveni Sangam went viral.

The officer in question is an ADM in Allahabad and being described as OP Shrivastav.

Incidentally, the place where Shrivastav chose to relieve himself was just few meters away from the press conference venue and where Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal is likely to perform on Wednesday as part of inauguration ceremony.

The officer, for his part, has denied allegations saying he had gone to the bank only to wash his hands.

He told ANI, “I was 15-20 feet away from the river. Like any other Hindu I also respect ‘Triveni Sangam’ a lot,would not do such a thing. After washing my hand in Triveni, I was only asjusting my pant.”

The opposition BJP has been quick to ask for his suspension. The state unit’s chief of the saffron party, Laxmikant Bajpai, said that UP government ‘must immediately suspend the ADM for urinating in Sangam.’

Triveni Sangam is the confuluence point for Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rovers and is considered sacred to millions of Hindu devotees.
