A 45-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide due to his inability to repay his agriculture loan, police said today.
Jang Bahadur Singh hanged himself yesterday at his house in Ghazipur village under Pailani Tehsil here after he was unable to repay the loan of Rs 2.5 lakh he had taken for agriculture, Inspector K P Singh.
His body was handed over to his family after post-mortem, police said adding an investigation has been launched following an order by District Magistrate Saroj Kumar.
His death comes amidst political debate on the central government’s alleged soft spot for big defaulters of bank loans such as the industrialist Vijay Mallya, who was ‘allowed’ to escape from India despite defaulting on thousands of crores of bank loans.
The topic of rich defaulters of bank loans had gained considerable media attention in the wake of the note ban announcement of the central government.
