Three militants killed in Handwara encounter in Kashmir

Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir’s Handwara area of Kupwara district on Sunday morning, police said.

The gunfight began on Saturday evening after security forces received information about the presence of a group of militants in the area. Soon the security forces cordoned off the area, when militants started firing upon the forces, resulting into fierce encounter .

The encounter, which is still on, three militants have been killed so far. These militants are believed to be the members of banned militant outfit Lashkar e Toiba(LeT). One militant is still holed up in the area.

Two army men have also sustained injuries in this operation. Police said that the identity of killed militants is being ascertained.

Huge quantity of ammunition has also been recovered from the encounter site.
