BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur, Varun Gandhi, on Friday took a veiled dig at Yogi Adityanath by saying that he too should have been a baba.
Speaking to a crowd in Semri Bazar of Jaipursingh assembly constituency in Sultanpur, Varun said, “Life is just like river Ganges. The deeper you go, the purer and cleaner you become. Life is not about houses and shops, but it’s what you posses within you. More you earn people’s respect, more satisfaction you get.”
The young BJP MP then said that he felt he should have been a baba.
On being asked to comment on the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, Varun said that the his political journey was all about honesty. “I am with honesty in politics. My aim is never to hurt or belittle anyone.”
A popular youth leader, Varun fell out of favour with Amit Shah after the latter took charge of the BJP in 2014. Shah had removed him from the post of a key office-bearer within the party after his appointment as the BJP President. Widely viewed as a strong candidate to become the UP chief minister, he was sidelined within his own party by the current leadership before the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls last year.
He’s currently on his constituency visit during which he’s expected to address nearly two dozens public events. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for next year.
