BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has blocked Janta Ka Reporter on Twitter. It’s not known when the controversial Rajya Sabha MP blocked the JKR on the microblogging site or what prompted him to take this action.
On Wednesday we had carried a report on his criticism for Deepika Padukone on film Padmavati. We had also reported how he had threatened to boycott Times Now channel. But as report was based on facts and we had not sided with any of the stakeholders involved in the controversy.
Swamy has become the third high profile functionary from the ruling BJP to block Janta Ka Reporter on Twitter. In the past, Kiran Bedi, now Puducherry’s Lieutenant Governor, and Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had taken similar measure following the website’s decision to publish reports critical of them.
Bedi had decided to block both Janta Ka Reporter and its founder, Rifat Jawaid, after the latter grilled her on ABP News for her several inconsistencies in public life. Bedi had unsuccessfully contested Delhi elections in 2015. The BJP under her leadership had faced a near annihilation causing even her personal defeat from Krishnanagar seat in Delhi.
Janta Ka Reporter had carried a sensational expose on India’s Rafale deal on Tuesday highlighting many questionable decisions taken by the Narendra Modi government. However, our expose on Rafale may not have been the reason for Swamy to block JKR on Twitter given his own opposition to the Modi government’s deal with the French aviation company in the past.
