External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who underwent a kidney transplant at AIIMS 10 days back, is being discharged from the hospital on Monday.
“Sushma Swaraj, who underwent kidney transplant operation on 10th December 2016, has shown steady recovery and is being discharged from hospital today,” the All India Institute of Medical Sciences said in a statement.
It further said her postoperative recovery was closely monitored by a team of transplant surgeons, physicians, critical care experts and physiotherapists.
Ms Swaraj had undergone a kidney transplant on Saturday which was harvested from a living unrelated donor.
On 16 November, Ms Swaraj herself had posted on Twitter that she was in AIIMS because of kidney failure. The Union Minister, who has been in and out of the hospital for last few months, was admitted to AIIMS on 7 November. After Ms Swaraj made public her health condition on social media, several people had offered their kidneys to her.
The union minister recently made it to Foreign Policy magazine’s 2016 list of 15 Global Thinkers.
