Sulkhan Singh gets extension as UP DGP hours after receiving farewell

Hours after receiving farewell from his colleague, the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police had his term extended by three months.

The UP government had written to the Centre requesting for a three month extension last week.

An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension for three months beyond the date of his superannuation, i.e. September 30, 2017.

The extension effectively means that he will continue to be the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police till December 2017.

Singh is a 1980 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He was picked up by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to head UP Police after BJP won a historic landslide in thsi year’s assembly elections. Javeed Ahmad, the then DGP, was shunted out to different department.

Singh has been in news for the series of encounters carried out his forced in the state. The UP Police’s new campaign has seen the killings of 18 alleged criminals in Uttar Pradesh recently.
