Subramanian Swamy writes to PM Modi, asks him to remove Raghuram Rajan as RBI Governor

Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to remove Raghuram Rajan as the Reserve Bank of India Governor.

According to an NDTV report, Swamy, in his letter, said: “I am shocked by the willful and apparently deliberate attempt by Dr Rajan to wreck the Indian economy… (Rajan) is acting more as a disrupter of the Indian economy than the person who wants the Indian economy to improve.”

Swamy also said that Rajan was in India on a Green Card and “therefore mentally not fully Indian.”

Swamy on Thursday had asked central government by to remove Rajan and send him to Chicago.

Swamy had said, “In my opinion, the RBI Governor is not apt for our country. His move to increase the interest rates, so as to cut down inflation and stabilise the economy, has backfired and has badly affected the nation.

“The country has suffered because of the way he raised interest rates saying that inflation will be curbed. He should be relieved as soon as possible and sent to Chicago.”
