BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has raked up a controversy yet again. Swamy on Tuesday said that the BJP’s position on homosexuality is that it is a ‘genetic disorder’. His comments come at a time when support is pouring in from around the country for the LGBT community after US legalized gay marriage.
Swamy was responding to a question about Law Minster Sadananda Gowda’s comment on homosexuality. Gowda is reported to have said that the Narendra Modi-led government was considering of scrapping Section 377 of the IPC that criminalizes gay sex.
However, Gowda later clarified that he had been misquoted and never mentioned of scrapping Section 377. “I have ben totally misquoted. When I was asked about the judgment that was given by the US court, I said that it is not an easy task in our country. So, we have no idea of scrapping or doing anything about [Section] 377,” Gowda said in an interview to a news agency.
