Did Subramanian Swamy just blame Ajit Doval for terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims?

In a veiled dig at the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy, has questioned the role of ‘bureaucracy’ after it failed to act despite having intelligence about an attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir in advance.

Swamy said in a tweet, “Since the Govt had prior information and warning as early as June 25th, somebody in the bureaucracy is accountable! Who? PTs (Patriotic Tweeples) can guess?”

Swamy was referring to the letter written by Jammu and Kashmir range Inspector General of Police, Munir Khan, to the army as early as on 27 June.

In his letter, Khan had said that militants were planning to target 100 policemen and as many pilgrims participating in the yatra.

“The Intelligence input received from SSP Anantnag revealed that terrorists had been directed to eliminate 100 to 150 pilgrims and about 100 police officers and officials,” said a letter by Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Muneer Khan to the Army, CRPF, and range DIGs in the state last week.

“The input is assessed to be a HUMINT (human intelligence) and needs further corroboration,” the IGP had said in the letter, adding the possibility of a sensational attack by a terrorist outfit could not be ruled out.

“The attack may be in the form of stand-off fire on the yatra convoy which the militants believe would result in flaring of communal tensions throughout the nation,” the IGP had said in the letter which was also circulated on WhatsApp.

Swamy had targetted Doval before accusing the Jammu and Kashmir’s PDP-BJP government of having failed in the state.

His tweet in April had said, “Ram Madhav to CNN News18 that PDP BJP has failed. Then who is accountable but him and Doval? Did they bother to check before leaping?”

On Tuesday, Swamy told ANI that the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir should be dismissed or made to resign.

He said, “This is the tipping point. The civilian government should be dismissed or should be asked to resign, and we should impose the Central rule through the Governor in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Swamy said the whole state should be brought under the Armed Forces Special Power Act, adding that Article 370 should be removed by Presidential notifications.

“We should now be prepared for military operation, because all other solutions are useless as they are being proved,” he said.

Doval was picked up as the NSA by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after he assumed office. The BJP supporters had hailed his appointment as India’s own James Bond, but his performance has come under huge scrutiny on a number of occasions.
