An official press release from India’s Rashtrapati Bhavan caused quite a flutter on Monday subsequently forcing the officials to withdraw the statement.
A press state from the President’s house said, ” The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the loss of lives in massive landslides in Himachal Pradesh.”
The statement from Ashok Malik, the newly appointed press secretary to President Ramnath Kovind wrongly addressed the current president as President Mukherjee, who’s no longer in office.
When pointed, Malik quickly issued a clarification stating that the press release was being recalled.
He said, “Apologies. It’s being recalled and rectified.”

Malik’s was responding to a tweet from journalist Rajdeep Sarrdesai, who wrote, “Rashtrapati Bhavan press release on Mandi bus tragedy says,’President Pranab Mukherjee.” Guess it takes time for GOI to move with the times!”
Kovind, a former governor of Bihar had defeated Congress’s Meira Kumar to become new president of India. He took oath of office on 27 July last month.
