Delhi Police have filed an FIR against a student from Sri Ram College of Commerce for physically assaulting his teacher, who gave Pradeep Phogat of ABVP zero marks in the annual assessment.
The principal of the college, R P Rustagi, said that Phogat got zero marks because he never attended classes. Phogat, for his part, said that he was being singled out for his association with the RSS-linked student organisation, ABVP.
The alleged incident took place on Friday near the parking area of the college.
DCP (north district) Jatin Narwal confirmed that an FIR had been lodged under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341(wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Phogat, reported the Indian Express.
Rustagi said, “The student assaulted Ashwani Kumar in the parking lot around 5 pm. He slapped him a couple of times but Kumar was able to defend himself. He also hurled abuses at him, and then ran away. After that, some of us went to the Maurice Nagar police station and submitted a complaint on the basis of which an FIR was registered.”
The ABVP has denied that Phogat had any links with the organisation even though he was the Union Sports Secretary of Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 2015.
Phogat, who’s currently pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Global Business Operations, said, “Ashwani Sir has had a problem with me since last year when I participated in the college elections. He holds a grudge against me since I’m from Law Faculty and from ABVP. He doesn’t want students to be politically active. He gave me zero in my internals, and also asked all other teachers do the same.”
