Solar Scam: Vigilance court orders filing of FIR against Kerala CM, power minister

Vigilance Court in Kerala has ordered registration of FIR against CM Oommen Chandy and Power Minister Araydan Mohammed in solar scam.

This came after the prime accused in the solar case Saritha S Nair targeted Chandy and Power Minister Arayadan Mohammed while deposing before the Justice Sivarajan Commission in Kochi, probing the case.

She had alleged that she paid bribes to the tune of Rs 1.90 crore to a close aide of the Chief Minister and Rs 40 lakh to Mohammed.

Both have denied the allegations.

“The new allegations are part of a political conspiracy hatched in connivance with the liquor lobby. The government had taken a bold decision to close down several liquor bars. Because they (bar owners) lost their battle in various courts — high court and Supreme Court, they have come with new allegations to hit out at the government”, Chandy was quoted by PTI.

Chandy added, “The government has the exact evidence in this regard.”

Nair’s allegations came a day after Chandy refused to undergo a lie-detector test while appearing before the judicial commission.

The scam involves a solar firm Team Solar Renewable Enery Solutions Private Limited, which was floated by Nair and her live-in partner Biju Radhakrishnan in 2011. However, the couple were arrested in 2013 for allegesly duping investors from who they had collected crores for a power project.

Last month, Radhakrishnan, who’s now serving life sentence for killing his wife, made sensational allegation that he had paid Rs 5.5 crore to Chandy as bribe.
