PM Modi’s new social security schemes as Raksha Bandhan gift for sisters


The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government has come out with an innovative drive for Raksha Bandhan gifts to promote the birth of girl child in India.

According to reports, the NDA government has planned to combine its social security schemes on this year’s Rakhi. The drive enables a brother to gift any three social security schemes including Pradhanmantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhanmantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana to their sisters on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The brothers can buy three types of cheques worth Rs. 201, 351 and 5001 for their sisters, giving them the benefits of the social security schemes.

Earlier in June, Narendra Modi had tsaid, “In August, we have Raksha Bandhan, we can begin a mass movement to ensure that all women and sisters of our country get all security scheme benefits before Raksha Bandhan. Whether it is a woman working as a maid in our house or in our fields, or whether it is our own sisters, we can ensure that they avail the social security schemes.”

Pradhanmantri Suraksha Bima Yojana is a renewable one-year accidental death-cum-disability insurance scheme of 2 lakh for partial or permanent disability to all savings bank account holders in the age group of 18-70 years for a premium of Rs. 12 per annum per subscriber.

While, Pradhanmantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana offers a renewable one-year life cover of 2 lakh to all savings account holders in the age group of 18-50 years covering death due to any reason for a premium of Rs. 330 per annum per subscriber.
