Police in Uttar Pradesh have booked the local BJP leader for slapping a ‘Hindu’ while she was out at a restaurant enjoying team with her Muslim friend.
Sangeeta Varshney, President of Women’s Wing, BJP Aligarh, has been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace). This was after the girl’s family registered a complaint against Varshney.
Janta Ka Reporter had exclusively reported the shameful act of Varshney, who was seen repeatedly slapping a girl for enjoying tea with her Muslim friend.
Many civil society activists had condemned her act demanding immediate arrest of Varshney. However, in a shocking turn of incident, the Muslim boy was booked instead under 294 of IPC (punishment for acts or words in public).
The BJP leader had later justified her act by saying that she will never allow a Hindu girl to hang out with a Muslim boy.
Speaking to reporters, she had said, “A Hindu girl and a Muslim boy were roaming at Naurangabad, Aligarh, and some of the common people happened to recognise them. When they were stopped, they tried to flee. At this time, some people from our Hindu community arrived and immediately informed the Gandhi Park police station at Naurangabad.”
