Simran is a comedy drama featuring Kangana Ranaut as the main protagonist, directed by Hansal Mehta. The movie is said to based on the life of Sandeep Kaur, an NRI in the United States who has been convicted of four bank robberies.
While SIMRAN has been in the news thanks to the lead actress making multiple headlines on her personal front, initial box office reports suggest that the movie has opened on a disastrous note with occupancy rates during morning shows being pegged at a meagre 12%
We share with you some of the critic’s reviews and ratings for Simran.
Times of India : Rating – 3.5 / 5
Frankly, you can’t emotionally invest in Simran or root for her as much as you might want to. But when you watch the film, you will find yourself warming up to her occasionally, because she’s all you’ve got.
Hindustan Times : Rating – 1.5 / 5
Simran, at best, is a celebration of Kangana Ranaut – the star. Looks like someone is trying to further glorify her public image, as her character is the embodiment of everything we have seen in her interviews and public statements over the past few years. She is vulnerable, blunt, brave and honest. Kangana mostly does a fine job of bringing the character to life but at times goes overboard while portraying the antics.

I was reminded of a old buddy from school who, when offered cheap beer, used to say, “Free mein toh hum phenyl bhi pee lete hain” – “for free I’d even drink phenyl”. That happens also to be the least disappointing way to consume this film: go watch a good performance and get the rest of the film for free.
India Today : Rating – 2 / 5
Simran surrenders itself to the all-encompassing star power of Ranaut who is at peak when handling moments of silence and loneliness. Whether it is breaking down in the car after her first robbery or just raising a toast to the world on a rooftop, she beautifully shows that Praful is an enigma, a young woman who thinks from her heart than her head. She is convinced she deserves better. After all the hoopla the audiences deserved a better movie too.
Zee News : Rating – 2.5 / 5
The audience will surely be amazed at the kind of versatility the actress has shown. There are a few songs but not the ones which you will take home after the film gets over. The title track ‘Simran’ by Sachin-Jigar is nice and breezy. You must watch ‘Simran’ only for appreciating the brilliance of ‘Queen’ Kangana Ranaut.
