Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday caused considerable embarrassment for himself and his party, the Congress, after his act of snatching a woman’s dupatta and microphone was caught on camera. In the video, now gone viral, Siddaramaiah was seen snatching the woman’s microphone and dupatta in a fit of rage.

The woman, dressed in green salwar suit, was identifed as one Jamila, who is believed to be a party worker from Varuna in Mysore district, the constituency of Siddaramaiah’s sonDr Yathindra.

The BJP wasted no time in attacking the former Karnataka Chief Minister and urged Chief Minister Kumaraswamy to file a case against Siddaramaiah for outraging a woman’s modesty. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar was quoted by news agency ANI, “Rahul Gandhi should tell what he’ll do with him. This is a crime, the way he abused her. That’s how they see women, they haven’t changed since the tandoor case. They only respect women from one family.”

Javdekar was referring to Gandhi’s earlier tweet asking for the resignation of Union Minister Ananthkumar Hegde for commenting on Karnataka Congress leader Dinsesh Gundu Rao’s Muslim wife. Gandhi’s tweet had read, “This man is an embarrassment to every Indian. He’s unfit to be a Union Minister and deserves to be sacked.”

Siddaramaiah later said that this was an accident and the woman in question was like her sister. He said, “When I was trying to stop a long speech of a party worker that incident happened, it was an accident, there was no bad intention. I know her since 15 years, she is just like my sister.”

Ironically, Siddaramaiah too had said that Hegde was not fit to be a minister for his disgraceful comments on Rao’s wife. He had said, “”Ananth Kumar Hegde is not fit to be an MP. He should apologise and resign immediately for his insensitive comments towards @dineshgrao and also for his provocative statements aimed at creating social conflicts.”

Moments later, he himself was being shamed for misbehaving with a woman party worker.
