A major fire has gutted a big shopping complex reportedly owned by the family members of Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami in Guwahati in Assam. The fire, which broke on Saturday, destroyed properties worth millions of rupees.
A report by The Sentinel said that the reason behind the devastating fire was shortcircuiting in one of the electronic shops in the complex. Two fireengines had to be deployed to bring the situation under control.
The shopping complex in question is located opposite Bharali Service Station and United Bank of India in Guwahati.
The fire caused a major traffic jam in the Lal Ganesh Area causing problems for fire tenders to reach the affected complex in time.
In a separate incident, another equally devastating fire near Lal Bangla road in Tinsukia on Saturday destroyed several shops and houses.
No loss of lives has been reported in either of the two incidents of fire.
Arnab Goswami hails from Assam, where his late father, a retired army officer, had unsuccessfully contested in elections on a BJP ticket. Goswami himself has had to face criticism for acting as a spokesperson of the BJP while conducting his prime time TV debates. BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar was one of the co-founders of his Republic TV.
