In a shocking development, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy on Friday made a passionate appeal to Hindus living in Bhopal to vote for Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, a terror accused, who the saffron party has fielded as its candidate in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Taking to Twitter, Subramanian Swamy wrote, “Every Hindu in Bhopal who respects the sacrifice of our heroes of the 800 years of struggle against foreign sabotage of India and who remembers the Emergency atrocities must line up from morning and vote for Sadhya Pragya.”
Seeking votes by invoking religion is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and the Election Commission of India had recently punished BSP Chief Mayawati and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for this violation.
When one user asked if Swamy was not the same person, who fought corruption and crimes in public life, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP replied, “What crime or corruption she has committed. Were Amit Shah and Namo not accused of crimes. You tweet like you are working for Digvijay. If so first answer why Bailgaadi walas and walis are contesting elections.”
His appeal to Hindus came on the same day when Pragya, a terror accused out on bail arguing poor health, humiliated India’s national hero and former Maharashtra ATS chief, Hemant Karkare. Speaking at a public event, the terror accused said that Karkare had died while in the line of duty during the 26/11 terror attacks because of her curse.
Karkare’s meticulous investigation had led to Pragya’s arrest in the Malegaon blasts in 2008, when seven people were killed and more than 100 injured.
While Karkare was killed in the line of duty and hence is a martyr. But that does not deprive. Sadhvi Prayag of her right of moral outrage for the physical torture and shame of being stripped that she was subjected to extract a compliant confession.

Reacting to Pragya’s abhorring comments for a national hero and a martyr, Swamy reacted, “While Karkare was killed in the line of duty and hence is a martyr. But that does not deprive. Sadhvi Prayag of her right of moral outrage for the physical torture and shame of being stripped that she was subjected to extract a compliant confession.”
Meanwhile, the IPS Association has expressed its displeasure on Pragya’s comments, but it refused to name the terror accused or the BJP in its tweet.
