In a shocking development, a young man in Haryana’s Sonipat was beaten to death after an argument over sharing a photo on WhatsApp turned ugly.
According to reports, the victim, who’s been identified as Luv, had invited his relative Dinesh with family over dinner. After the dinner, Luv reportedly shared a personal photo in a WhatsApp group.
“After having dinner, we clicked some pictures and accidentally shared it on WhatsApp. After this, Dinesh invited Luv home, where he, along with other family members, attacked us with iron rods and bricks. Luv died on the spot, while my other brothers are hospitalised,” Luv’s brother Ajay was quoted by ANI.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, police informed that the group had several members of the area sharing the same Johar ‘gotra’ (clan) and Luv was the admin of a WhatsApp group called ‘Johars’.
Investigating officer Shri Krishan said the WhatsApp group was formed to identify all the extended family members of their ‘gotra’ living nearby so their community could collectively take decisions, such as which party to vote for in elections.
Police said that they had yet to arrest the alleged killers of Luv adding that a complaint had been registered against Dinesh and his family.
“We got information that Dinesh, a resident of Shikha Colony, killed Luv, and harmed his brothers. Luv died due to a head injury. We have registered a complaint, and will soon arrest the culprits,” said Narender Kumar, Civil Lines Station Incharge.
Luv, the report by news agency ANI, added that was survived by wife and a nine-month-old baby.
