Shikhar Dhawan, whose magnificent century against the defending champion Australia on Sunday led to India’s splendid victory, has been ruled out for three weeks in the ongoing cricket World Cup competition. Dhawan was hit on his left thumb while batting for India at the Oval cricket ground. He had continued to bat with an injured thumb to score 117 against Australia.
The stylish cricketer underwent a scan on Monday, when the doctors revealed that Dhawan had a fracture. Dhawan’s exclusion for three weeks means that India will not have his services against New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies and England.
Each of the ten participating teams in the competition will play against each other with the top four teams with the most points qualifying for semi-finals.
While Dhawan’s injury has come as a blow for the Indian side, this has also created a big headache for the team to find his suitable replacement. Soon after the news of Dhawan’s injury came in Twitter exploded with hilarious memes and suggestions for his replacement.
