News channels on Thursday kept themselves busy with guessing game over the former Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit and her future would hold.
‘Sources’ in India Today said that Dikshit could be entrusted with the responsibility to look after the party’s affairs in Punjab and Haryana. The channel said that the decision may have been taken in light of Kamal Nath’s resignation from the post.
However, minutes later, NDTV’s ‘sources’ said that on strategist Prashant Kishore’s advice, the Congress had agreed to project ‘brahmin’ Dikshit as it chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh for 2017 elections.
The channel also reported that Dikshit’s pedigree as a chief minister who had transformed Delhi will help part sell the agenda of development in Uttar Pradesh successfully.
Priyanka Gandhi, NDTV ‘sources’ said, would be seen in a new role which would see her campaign beyond Amethi and Rae Bareli.
There hasn’t been in any word from Dikshit herself. Soon after losing Delhi in 2013, Dikshit was appointed the Governor of Kerala. But she was made to resign by Narendra Modi government after it assumed power in May 2014.
