Shahid Afridi steps down as Pakistan’s T20 captain

Pakistani Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi has stepped down from his role.

In a statement posted on his twitter page, Afridi said that he ‘relinquishing the captaincy of the T20  Pakistani team of my own volition.’

He added that it was ‘an honour’ to lead Pakistani cricket team ‘in three formats of the game.’

Afridi was under pressure to quit after his team’s dismal performance in the World T20 competition, where it failed to qualify to the semi-final stage.
