There was a ruckus in Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam, Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s press conference in Lucknow on 20 February after a scuffle involving one of his security staff and a journalist from an Urdu newspaper.
Attempting to control the situation and patch up with the journalists, an embarrassed Bukhari tendered an unconditional apology to the journalist.
According to Times of India, Bukhari even offered to lodge FIR against his own security person. “I am sorry for the entire episode, and if you (journalists) want, I am even willing to register an FIR against my own security personnel.”
Bukhari was in the city to attend the Representative Convention of Muslims, Lucknow, which was attended by almost 35 delegates.
Among other things, Bukhari was asked to comment on JNU crisis, but evaded the question by saying it was a clash of ‘two ideologies.’
