Chennai: In a blow to VK Sasikala’s camp, its minister and two MPs today jumped ships and extended support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who has raised a banner of revolt against the AIADMK general secretary.
The minister – K Pandiarajan – said he is joining Panneerselvam’s fight to “save AIADMK”, “listening the collective voice of voters”.
Caretaker Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam got another shot in the arm when two AIADMK Lok Sabha MPs also joined his camp today.
AIADMK MPs from Namakkal and Krishnagiri, PR Sundaram and K Ashok Kumar today extended support to Panneerselvam.
He has also launched a signature campaign to convert the Poes Garden residence of his predecessor, the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, into a memorial.
He had earlier made an announcement in this regard.
In a rarely seen intra-party political tussle in the AIADMK, Panneerselvam openly revolted against Sasikala on February 7, two days after she was elected the Legislature Party leader for her elevation as Chief Minister.
He had alleged that he was forced to step down as chief minister to make way for Sasikala.
Meanwhile, Sasikala has written to TN Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, seeking appointment today to meet him along with her MLAs.
Sasikala told Rao she believes he will “act immediately to save the sovereignty of the Constitution and democracy”.
