Sensational feat by Sania and Hingis as they win Australian Open’s women’s doubles title


The sensational tennis duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on Friday created another record by winning the women’s doubles title of the Australian Open by annihilating their Czech opponents Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.

With this victory they also won their 36th games in a row, a world record.

The top seeds faced some resistance in the first set but eased past their rivals in the second set before wrapping up the match in just 1 hour and 45 minutes.

This is the third consecutive Grand Slam title for Sania and Martina, after they won the Wimbledon and US Open in the 2015 season.

Aside from extending their unbeaten run to 36 matches, Sania and Martina have also now won eight titles in a row. They won five straight titles in 2015, starting from the US Open and before the Australian Open now.

As for Sania, it was her second title at the Australian Open, having won the mixed doubles in 2009 with Mahesh Bhupathi.
