Sania Mirza has told the All India Tennis Association that it preferred Leander Paes as her Mixed Doubles Partner for the Rio Olympics in August.

She had partnered Paes even in 2012 London Olympics.

“I have already spoken to AITA and conveyed my decision on the Olympic issue. They have a meeting on the 11th (June) and let’s wait for that,” Sania told PTI.

This came even as most media reports suggested that Mirza could be asked to play along with Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles category, India’s best medal hope in tennis category in this year’s Olympics

Mirza, however, said that her immediate focus was on Wimbledon, where she’s partnering Martina Hingis in the Women’s Doubles category.

The world number 1 doubles player said, “Winning every tournament is a difficult thing. But it’s a pleasure being defending champions and there is pressure also. There was pressure first time also and it will be no different. We will take one match at a time.”

Meanwhile, Bopanna too is believed to have informed the AITA about his choice for men’s doubles partner. He, however, did not reveal who his choice was.
