Rhea Pillai filed in a domestic violence case over her estranged partner and father of their daughter, Leander Paes, in 2014, however, it was only this July that the Supreme Court ordered the Mumbai court to decide the matter within six months.
Pillai’s lawyers, as reported, had erroneously left out a ‘zero’ in her court petition for compensation for domestic violence, which reduced her one time settlement demand down from Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 10 lakh.
However, this matter was brought to the notice of the court only yesterday, when her domestic violence case against Paes was up for hearing at the Bandra Magistrate Court.
During the hearing, Pillai’s lawyers Gunjan Mangla and Amna Usman, from the chambers of Mahesh Jethmalani, informed the honourable court that they had left out one zero in the compensation amount that their client was demanding. Mangla further informed Magistrate R. S. Sarkale that Pillai was seeking Rs. 1 crore in damages for the alleged domestic violence, but because of their slip-up, the amount stated in the interim application was mentioned as merely Rs. 10 lakh.
What Pillai has demanded from Paes as Settlement Expenses until now?
As reported on September 2, Pillai made the demand for maintenance accusing Paes of being an absentee father, leaving her to bear the expenses for their daughter
Expenses borne by her until Now :
She had demanded a one-time payment of Rs. 42.37 lakh for the expenses already borne by her until now, as well as monthly payments of Rs. 2.62 lakh to support her and her daughter.
Vehicle :
The list of demands further includes, the purchase of a vehicle consistent with the standard of living their daughter is used to, such as Toyota Innova, Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda City or a similar car
Future One time settlement :
Rs. 1 Cr. (erroneously mentioned as Rs. 10 Lakhs)
Therefore, the actual cash in hand demand comes to :
One Time Payment:
Rs. 1.43 cr. (instead of Rs. 43 lakhs + [Rs. 10 Lakhs])
Monthly Maintenance to Support herself and daughter :
Rs. 2.6 lakh
