Jawaharlal Nehru University on Wednesday denied media reports that said a top panel report had recommended rustication of the JNSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar and four other students.
Quoting Chief Proctor Ashok Dimri, the news agency IANS reported, “It is not true. Not at all…,”
Dimri added, “What the panel has recommended is a different issue. I’ve just received the report and will review it when the time comes. The students have been issued show-cause notices in which there are different clauses. But the media reports are not true.”
“The quantum of punishment will be decided once I receive the responses to the show cause (notices),” he added.
JNU Teachers’ Association too denied the media reports.
The JNUTU general secretary Professor Bikramaditya Chaudhury told IANS, “These reports are completely false. The teaching community is going to demand from the JNU administration to set up an inquiry and find out who leaked the rumours in media. We want the media organisations which carried the report to disclose the name of the person who said this.”
Several news agencies including PTI and the ANI had this week reported how the probe panel had recommended expulsion for Kanhaiya Kumar and four others from the university.
Among the students recommended to be rusticated are Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and two other students for their alleged role in a controversial event in February at which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
The panel had submitted its report last week on Friday.
