Rajya Sabha witnesses ruckus over ‘dalal’ word, Deputy chair goes through book

Rajya Sabha once again witnessed unruly scenes after opposition parties accused Union Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, of provoking them.

The Upper House was adjourned till 14 PM. However, when the House resumed, the SP’s Naresh Agrawal called Naidu ‘sarkari dalal (agent of government).’

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi objected to the use of sarkari dalal asking the deputy chair to expunge the comments adding that Agrawal must apologise.

The deputy chair looked through the definition and asked, “I don’t know Hindi very much. I’m tukda tukda Hindi wallah. But it’s written here in the book. If you say dalal of industrialists, it’s casting aspersion. But when you say dalal of sarkar, it is not derogatory.”

The deputy chair was later advised that Rajasthan assembly had declared sarkar ke dalal an unparliamentary word declaring that the words will be expunged.

Earlier today, a united Opposition today continued to disrupt proceedings in Rajya Sabha over hardships caused to the people due to demonetisation of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, forcing two adjournments in the pre-noon session.

Congress, TMC and BSP members trooped into the Well shouting slogans against the government, forcing proceedings to be adjourned first for 30 minutes and then till noon.

‘All India Protest’, called Aakrosh Diwas, has been called to highlight the hardships, he said as other opposition leaders including Mayawati (BSP), Derek O’Brien (TMC), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), Anand Sharma (Cong) joined in.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the nation was seething in anger over the hardship and harrassment caused because of the announcement made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8.
