Congress President Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack on the RSS, the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra, who he mocked by using his famous slogan chowkidar chor hai. Also coming under attack by Gandhi during an event, organised by the Congress party’s minority wing, was Union Minister Nitin Gadkri.
Referring to a speech made by Gadkari in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Gandhi told the audience at the Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium in Delhi, “Today, Gadkari ji gave a fine speech in the Lok Sabha. I wasn’t there but I heard his speech. Gadkari ji said ‘I am the only BJP leader who does everyone’s work (without any political consideration)’.”
Rahul Gandhi on Nitin Gadkari:
No, no, no, no. Rest all are not thieves. Even Gadkari ji’s reputation is not that great.
This prompted someone in the audience to shout, ‘rest all are thieves (in the BJP).’ Gandhi quickly corrected the individual by stating, “No, no, no, no. Rest all are not thieves. Even Gadkari ji’s reputation is not that great.” This jibe left everyone in the audience in splits.
Gandhi clarified, “I didn’t say this (giving clean chit to Gadkari). What I said was that even BJP ministers (in the central government) are saying that they are not allowed to work. And this is the reality.”
Among other key aspect of his Thursday’s speech was his promise to scrap the controversial law that criminalises the practice of Triple Talaq. Calling Narendra Modi a coward, he said that the Congress party had risen and was capable of challenging him and his party.
If you have guts then have Narendra Modi stand in front of me on stage. I will ask him just two questions. ‘Brother, please tell me something about Anil Ambani….’ ‘What deal did you strike with Russia. He can’t face me because Chowkidar Chor hai.
He said, “If you have guts then have Narendra Modi stand in front of me on stage. I will ask him just two questions. ‘Brother, please tell me something about Anil Ambani….’ ‘What deal did you strike with Russia. He can’t face me because Chowkidar Chor hai.”
Gandhi also repeated his earlier pledge to introduce programme guaranteeing minimum income for every poor Indian if the Congress came to power in 2019.
Gandhi had recently irked Gadkari after he sarcastically praised him for mocking Modi on deserting his wife. Gandhi had tweeted, “Gadkari Ji, compliments! You are the only one in the BJP with some guts. Please also comment on: 1. The
#RafaleScam & Anil Ambani 2. Farmers’ Distress 3. Destruction of Institutions.”
This was after Gadkari had said that those who were incapable of managing their home could not manage the country’s affairs.
