Protest and clash during Lashkar commander’s funeral in Kashmir


Clashes erupted in south Kashmir’s Pagampora area on Sunday between security forces and youth after local Lashkar e Taiba commander, Irshad Ganie was buried at his ancestral graveyard. Irshad was killed on Saturday in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama.

Following the funeral of slain Lashkar commander people took to the roads and resorted to stone pelting resulting into heavy clashes between forces and youth, leaving dozens of youth injured.

People in large number joined the funeral of Irshad Ganie, chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Earlier, separatist leader S A S Gilani had addressed over phone to thousands of mourners who took part in the funeral, said an eye witness.

Strike call is being observed in district Pulwama today to ‘mourn’ the killing of Lashkar commander.
