Professor Saibaba granted bail, Supreme Court slams Maharashtra govt for being ‘unfair’ to professor


Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Delhi University Professor Saibaba, who was accused of sedition.

He was arrested in 2014 for alleged links with the Maoists.

The apex court also slammed the counsel for Maharashtra government for it called was harsh treatment meted out to the arrested professor.

The court said, “You have been extremely unfair to the accused(Prof Saibaba),specially given to his medical examination. If material witnesses have been examined, then why do you want him in jail? You are unnecessarily harassing the petitioner.”

The state said that eight witnesses were yet to be recorded.
