Professor in Bihar’s Motihari thrashed for sharing Facebook post critical of Atal Bihari Vajpayee


An assistant professor in Bihar’s Motihari district was physically assaulted on Friday after he allegedly shared a post on Facebook critical of former prime minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.


A news flash by ANI said, “Sanjay Kumar, a Professor at the Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Motihari, thrashed by a mob yesterday allegedly for sharing an FB post critical of #AtalBihariVajpayee. Says ‘Some elements have been targeting me for speaking against the VC and this was another excuse.”

Sanjay Kumar of Mahatma Gandhi Central University told ANI that his atatckers also asked him why he had been speaking up against the Vice Chancellor. Police have booked 12 people in connection with the attack. Kumar, who is an assistant professor with sociology department, was reportedly attacked shortly after he shared a Facebook post about Vajpayee who died on Thursday evening after prolonged illness.

Among those booked are Rahul Kumar Pandey, Sunny Vajpayee, Aman Bihari Vajpayee, Purushottam Mishra, Ravikesh Mishra, Gyaneshwar Gautam, Sanjay Kumar Singh — local bureau chief of Dainik Bhaskar — Dr Pawnesh Kumar Singh, Diwakar Singh, Dinesh Vyas, Jitendra Giri and Rakesh Pande.

The professor is reported to have suffered serious injuries in the assault and has been transferred to Patna Medical College and Hospital.

On Friday, BJP corporators had thrashed a fellow corporator in Aurangabad municipal corporation after he opposed the condolence meet for Vajpayee. The video of Abdul Matin being brutally thrashed by BJP corporators had gone viral on social media.
