Pinarayi Vijayan chosen to become next Kerala chief minister: Reports


Reports indicate that the CPI-M has elected Pinarayi Vijayan as Kerala’s next chief minister.

Sources said that CPI-M Central leadership had informed VS Achuthanandan that P Vijayan will be the next CM of Kerala.

The decision has understandably been taken after the CPI-M State Committee met in Kerala on Friday. The meeting was attended by the party’s general secretary, Sitaram Yechury and senior leader, Prakash Karat.

However, VS Achuthanandan had left the meeting midway, giving rise to speculation that his candidature for the top job in the state had been ruled out.

The CPI-M led LDF defeated the Congress led UDF in the just concluded Kerala assembly elections.
