Narendra Patel, a prominent Patidar leader in Gujarat, has sensationally alleged that he was offered Rs 1 crore to join the BJP.
Speaking to media in Ahmedabad, Patel, who’s also the convenor of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti in Mehsana, showed the cash of Rs 10 lakh that was allegedly paid to him as a token money by two Patidar leaders, who had joined the BJP on Saturday.
Patel told reporters that his decision to accept Rs 10 lakh was to ‘expose’ the game-plan of both the BJP and Varun Patel and Reshma Patel.
He said, “Varun Patel took me to a meeting where it was discussed that I will be given Rs 1 crore and I received the money from his hands. This is a corruption money and not something I’ve earned through hard work. So, I will be returning this money. I had joined the movement for Patidar community, not to face the insult by the government.”
He said that he will release the audio tape of the sting that he carried out on Varun on Monday.
While the BJP has not reacted, Varun Patel said that there was no truth in the allegation adding that Narendra Patel ought to have gone to the media after taking Rs 1 crore.
Both Varun and Reshma were among the prominent faces of the Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) and remained critical of the ruling BJP during the agitation.
They joined the BJP after a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and State party chief Jitu Vaghani during its parliamentary board meeting, which was also attended by BJP president Amit Shah.
They had joined the BJP on the day popular OBC leader Alpesh Thakor had announced his intention to join the Congress party.
