Police in Pakistan’s Sindh province has arrested the cop who mercilessly thrashed an elderly man for selling edibles during Ramadan.
According to Dawn newspaper, the constable Ali Hassan was arrested by police following a social media campaign calling for justice for the octogenarian man.
Hassan was posted in Ghotki district’s Hayat Pitafi town. The photos of the victim, Gokal Das, showing his injuries went viral with many prominent social media users in Pakistan demanding justice for the elderly Hindu.
Among those who demanded for such heinous crime was Bakhtawar Bhutto, sister of the PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto.
She tweeted, “A policeman in #Ghotki beat up an elderly Hindu man 4 eating before iftar. The policeman has been arrested #ZeroTolerance #Justice4GokalDas.”

SSP Ghotki Masood Bangash told Dawn that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Jarwar police station under Sections 337, 504 and 506/2 of Pakistan Penal Code against the policeman for assaulting the senior citizen.
The complainant in the case is Vinod Kumar, grandson of the victim.
Inspector General Sindh A.D. Khawaja took notice of the incident and ordered that justice must be served to the Hindu labourer.
Khawaja is being widely hailed for taking prompt action by arresting the constable.
