The ongoing controversy around Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati appears to have taken a deadly turn with a dead body being found hanging at Rajasthan’s Nahargarh Fort.
A note found near the body said, “Padmavati Ka Virodh hum putle nahi jalaate, latkaate hain. (Opposing Padmavati. We don’t just burn effigies, but we also hang them.)”
The note, was written on the rock next to the body. The dead person has been identified as Chetan Kumar Saini. Karni Sena has denied its hand in the murder.
Padmavati has been facing a series of protests from pro-Hintuva and members of Royal family particularly in Rajasthan. The makers of the film had later announced to postpone the release of the movie.
The governments of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have opposed the release of Padmavati
All states except Punjab are ruled by the BJP. Captain Amarinder Singh’s support for those opposing the film is believed to be the fallout of his internal politics within the Congress party.
The British censor board on Thursday had announced it had approved the film in its entirely without any cut for 1 December release. The Hindutva groups led by Karni Sena had threatened to burn UK theatres to protest the censor board’s deicsion in the country.
