Renowned historian Irfan Habib has said that the protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat appeared to have been designed to help the movie as part of a clever PR strategy.

Speaking to Janta Ka Reporter after the special special screening of the film in Delhi on Tuesday, Habib said, “There’s absolutely nothing in the movie as was being alleged for last few months.” When asked if the protests were aimed at helping the movie as part of a PR exercise, the historian said, “It was all a PR exercise. I feel the protesters ( from Karni Sena) were paid to carry out the protests.”

Habib added that there was not a single word in the movie that hurt the Rajput pride. The makers of Padmaavat had held a special screening of the film in Delhi on Tuesday where they invited a selected group of journalists.
