In a new revelation it has emerged that at least four regular customers at the gay Orlando nightclub where a gunman killed 49 people on Sunday said that they they had seen the killer, Omar Mateen, there before.
“Sometimes he would go over in the corner and sit and drink by himself, and other times he would get so drunk he was loud and belligerent,” Ty Smith, who also uses the name Aries, was quoted by Orlando Sentinel.
The paper reported that Aries saw Mateen at the club at least a dozen times.
Aries added, “We didn’t really talk to him a lot, but I remember him saying things about his dad at times. He told us he had a wife and child.”
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said he did not have any information about those visits.
These revelations assume significance as many including the US Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, too had jumped to conclusion in linking Mateen’s alleged act to his religious belief.
The disclosure on Mateen possibly being a frequent visitor to the gay nightclub came on the day British newspaper quoted several activists, who expressed their anger the Orlando shooting being linked to a possible conflict with the dreaded terrorist organisation, IS.
Mateen’s ex wife too had described him as not being overly religious person while adding that he was mentally unstable and suffered from extreme short temper.
