Uttar Pradesh’s governor, Ram Nail, has defended the arms training by the right-wing militant group Bajrang Dal saying there was nothing wrong in ‘self-defence’ camps.
“No harm in self-defence camps. What is important to know is the intention behind it,” Naik, who was a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, was quoted by ANI.
His comments may cause another controversy as the videos of Bajrang Dal workers displaying arms in the name of ‘self-defence’ camps had attracted huge outrage on Monday.
Several political parties and members of civil society had criticised the Uttar Pradesh’s Samajwadi Party government for allowing an outfit, notorious for causing riots and violence, to hold arms-training in the state.
The depiction of skull-cap wearing Muslims as terrorists during the camp too had become a topic of intense social media conversation.
