Police in Greater Noida have arrested a woman after she threatens her male friend to blackmail him with false charges of rape if he did not pay her Rs 10 lakh. According to police, the incident was reported from Greater Noida’s Lakhnawali village.
The woman was arrested on Monday before being sent to judicial custody.
Police Officer Muneesh Chauhan, according to news agency PTI, said that the arrested woman and the complainant had been friends for quite some time. The man, in his complaint, had said that the woman asked him for money on many occasions citing various reasons.
He approached the cops on 11 October last month when the woman allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from him. The woman, according to him, threatened to falsely accuse him of rape if he did not pay the money, Chauhan was quoted by PTI.
The cops were quick to register a complaint before launching an investigation. Among other evidences, the cops also reviewed the text messages exchanged between the man and the accused. Once satisfied with the complainant’s allegations, the police arrested the woman and charged her under the Indian Penal Code Sections 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life, etc) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The woman was produced before a magistrate court before being sent to judicial custody.
