The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Avtar Singh Makkar, on Sunday rubbished the rumours of media ban inside the Golden Temple.
This came after some reports suggested that the SGPC had imposed a ban on the entry of media personnel inside the Golden Temple on the occasion of the 32nd Operation Blue Star Anniversary tomorrow.
Makkar told ANI, “The day is of crucial significance and I urge all to maintain peace. Action will be taken against the miscreants. And as far as notice against the entry of the press is concerned, we have not issued any such notice and we will take action against those who have done this. I just request the press not to create any sort of unrest, rest the media is allowed to do their work.”
Operation Blustar in June 1984 had killed more than 1,000 people after the Indian troops raided the premises of the Sikh’s holiest site to contain extremists led by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale.
Bhindrawale and his associates were killed in the operation.
