NIA DSP Mohammad Tanzil shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor, wife critically injured

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tanzil was shot dead on Saturday night as he was returning after attending a wedding in Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.

The officer’s wife, who too was critically injured by unidentified gunmen, has been rushed to a Noida hospital.

“He was attending his niece’s marriage. He was with his wife and two children. Two bike-borne assailants shot fire at them. They were referred to the Cosmos hospital,” Station House Officer Rajkumar told ANI.

Noida’s Fortis Hospital medical report said that the ‘patient (Mohd Tanzil’s wife)’ was brought in a critical condition and doctors were providing best medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the NIA team of Delhi and Anti Terrorism Squad have reached the Moradabad hospital where body of the NIA official is kept.

The NIA has clarified that the officer was not part of the Pathankot probe.

NIA IG Sanjiv Kumar Singh said that Tanzil’s murder was a part of a planned attack.

He said, “Mohd Tanzil, when he was coming back from a function, a planned attack took place on him. UP Police,STF and ATS are investigating the matter. Ek planned attack mein hamare bahadur officer Mohammad Tanzil shaheed ho gaye,unki patni zakhmi hain.”

Raghib Ahmed, the slain officer’s brother, told ANI that he had no enmity against anyone and he was a friendly and cheerful person.

The police have started the investigations.
