In less than a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the note ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, the Reserve Bank of India has said the new Rs 50 notes will soon be in the market.
The RBI on Friday said that the new Rs 50 currency notes will be in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series and fluorescent blue in colour.
A month after the demonetisation announcement, the RBI had said it planned to launch new Rs 50 and Rs 20 notes.
The bank notes of Rs 50 denomination issued by the RBI in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender, the central bank said in a statement.
“The new denomination has motif of Hampi with chariot on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is fluorescent blue,” the RBI was quoted by news agency IANS.
The new notes will have the RBI Governor, Urijit Patel’s signature and motif of Hampi with Chariot on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage.
