The central government will soon launch new Rs 1 note with the new one being of different colour than what existed before.
The new note will also have the photo of the Sagar Samrat oil exploration rig with the new notes being in pink-green in colour. The new notes will also have bilingual signature of economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das and not the RBI governor, Urijit Patel.
An RBI release said, “These currency notes are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011.”
This is the first time the government has decided to print new denomination notes since announcing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes illegal on 8 November last year.
The shock decision of PM Narendra Modi had caused nationwide chaos, killing more than 200 people due to demonetisation-related stress.
The government had then launched new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes in the market.
