Navy officer and 8-time Mr India arrested for ‘rape’ after he invites girlfriend to hotel

Police in Kerala have arrested a 38-year-old Indian Navy for allegedly raping a woman in a hotel in Kottayam. The junior commissioned officer, identified as Murali Kumar, was arrested after the woman’s father filed a complaint on her behalf.

According to police complaint, Kumar, based in Mumbai, had first met the woman on social media and began dating each other. The woman, in her early 20s, reportedly told the police that Kumar sexually assaulted her when she went to meet him in a hotel in Kottayam last week. The woman’s father also alleged that Kumar had promised his daughter to marry her.

The matter came to light after the woman needed to be hospitalised in a surgical ICU of a private following severe vaginal injuries, reported Mirrow Now channel. He’s been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

A report by PTI said that Kumar had also been booked under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. Kumar is a two-time Mr Asia title holder and eight-time Mr India title winner, allegedly befriended the woman through social media.

Police said they would file a report with naval authorities on the incident.
