One Indian soldier and a 9-year-old girl were killed in Pakistani firing from across the Line of Control on Monday, said the Indian army.
The Army confirmed the death of soldier, Naik Mudassar Ahmed by Pakistani troops in Jammu’s Bhimber Gali Sector
A statement by the Indian army said, ” Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Rajouri sector at around 0730h today. Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively. In the fire exchange, Naik Muddasar Ahmed was grievously injured when mortar shells landed on his bunker. He was evacuated to the MI room where he succumbed to his injuries.”
It added, “Naik Muddasar Ahmed, 37 years, belonged to Village Duchoo, Tehsil Tral, District Pulwama, J&K and is survived by his wife Mrs Shaheena Muddasar and two children.”
Describing Naik Muddasar Ahmed as a brave and sincere soldier, the army statement said, “He loved his job to the core. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty.”
Elsewhere, nine-year-old Saida of Balakote was killed in Poonch.
DDC Rajouri told news agency ANI, “Two civilians have been seriously injured. Schools are closed for an indefinite period of time and evacuation will be done once there is break in firing.”
