Muzaffarnagar communal clash kills one, injures four


Communal violence killed one person and left four injured on Saturday as members of two communities clashed with each other inMuzaffarnagar.

Quoting police sources, the news agency PTI reported that 25-year-old Hassan Abbas was killed in Chitoda village.

Superintendent of Police (crime), Rakesh Jolly said that Abbas was killed in the clash during which sharp-edged weapons and lathis were used.

The four injured were shifted to hospital. A case was registered against 8 persons under Jansath police station, he said.

Security has been tightened in the village and extra police force has been deployed, he said.

Muzaffarnagar has been communally sensitive area in Uttar Pradesh since 2013, when a large-scale violence had killed more than 50 people and rendered thousands of people homeless.

Last month, the BJP won the assembly bypolls by invoking communal politics.

The state is scheduled to for elections next year and experts feel that incidents of communal violence will only go up in an effort to polarise the votes along the religious lines.
